Hi Juanita
To the best of my knowledge, NONE of my lines came to Canada through the USofA, but came directly to
Canada from the British Isles. I know that for people who live in the states, it seems strange that all
routes to North America are not through the 13 colonies. But, it is true, even by sea, there are a
number of ports that allow direct entry to Canada. In short, if you are looking for connections to any
of my ancestors, you need to go through the British Isles, or in a few rare cases, there were some
"defectors" that migrated from Canada to the US.
Since you are interested in the MacDonalds, you might want to check out this site
http://clanhuston.com/donald.htm. Be warned that some of the information here seems to go in circles.
My MacDonalds came from the Isle of Tyree, but we have not been able to make any connection to anybody
referenced in this site. Have fun.
Jim
