I have FTW ver 7.0, and did some checking, including the help file. Perhaps
your friend should do the same. Apparently when exporting as a GED file,
there is a special window that appearsjust before the final "OK". There are a
number of options there that may allow him (her) to change the parameters when
he exports, including the version of GED (4 or 5.5) and whether it is to be
imported to FTW or other program (incl FTM for DOS). I am guessing, but you
may get around it if he exports as GED, to be imported as "FTM for DOS". It
appears that FTW may be including extra information if it is know that the
fole is to be imported to FTW (maybe only ver 7.0). I am not real sure what I
said, so if you have a question, I may not be able to answer. I am making a
few guesses based on what I see in this final window and in the help file.
