Hi Jean...
Well...I can't speak for any genealogy societies other than our own
Batesville Genealogical Society, of course. But...we do have a room, which
we share with the Independence County Historical Society. Most of the time
it is kept locked, but it is there, where we store some books and the extra
Bits of Bark issues. In order to use this room, you have to connect with
the few folks that have keys...I have one, somewhere!
The BGS has donated research and family books to the White River Regional
Library here in Batesville, and to the Old Independence Regional Museum,
also. Both have genealogy sections that are open to the general
public. The Lyon College here in Batesville also has a wonderful set of
rooms that is devoted to this area's history and they house some
genealogical information there, also. The University of Arkansas Community
College, while allowing me to teach a small genealogy class, has only a
small library, and I'm not sure if they have the available space to house a
genealogy section. That's something that I need to check into, I suppose.
I would suggest that anyone that might be interested in printing out what
you've got in you favorite Family Tree program to contact the county
Library, Genealogical Society, etc. of the county that you're interested in
donating to, and go from there. See if they'll accept a copy. Most of the
time, if it's freely given, they'll be more than glad to take a copy. I'd
just go to my friendly office supply store, get me some printer paper and a
D-ring binder that will house all my work, get me a trusty three-hole
punch, and go to town!! : )
Make sure, however, that you list your name, address, e-mail address, and
phone number if you wish, so that any folks that might connect to you can
get in touch with you! Otherwise, what good would it do you if your third
cousin twice removed found your work...but they couldn't get in touch??
We shall see how it goes....
Have a good one...
Regina
