Jean, I think that's a great idea!! : )
In fact, I would probably suggest two or three copies ...one to the local
genealogical society, one to the local library, and then one to a local
museum that is close to where your folks were from. And, if you span
several counties, like mine, well...you may be out even more money! But,
if you do it slowly, say one book a year to different places, the cost
would be minimal (is that the word I wanted to use??), instead of being one
great big lump sum.
What do you folks think? Is this a workable idea? I may kick it out to
the BGS members here in a week or so, too, and see what happens...
And on those old photos...make just a regular photocopy (the cheap 10 cent
or so kind), and on the back of it, list each person and keep it with the
original, just so that folks on down the line will know who the people in
it are when they run across it again. So many names are lost because our
ancestors didn't write down names, and now we have no clue as to who some
of those people looking out at us are! I'm running into faulty memories
with my grandparents on some photos that they are in as young folk...they
just can't remember who all those people are!
Let me know what you think on the "book" idea...I'm excited about this!! : )
