Mike and Rodger,

Your mention of "polecats" brings back memories of my teen-aged
years. That is, if "polecat" means skunk?

When I was a teen, I lived in a foster home with a wonderful family out in
Oregon. At one time, they had their own two daughters still in school, and
four of us foster girls (their two oldest children, sons were grown and
working or in college).

Anyway, we girls would take army cots out to the front yard in the summer
to sleep out and see the stars, etc. One night, one of the other girls and
I went walking in the moonlight, and came across a skunk. It was the
bright idea of the other girl to catch the skunk, have it's oder bag
removed and make a pet out of it. SO, we went chasing that thing all over
the place, until we caught it! We both got sprayed really well, and
changing our clothes, spraying perfume on ourselves, sleeping
outside...none of that worked! We lived through the night with the odor,
until we could get bathes the next day. Sadly, somehow the skunk got out
of the wire cage, after having a visit to the vet and being "de-skunked",
and we never found it again. What strange things we kids would resort to
in those days! :-)
