Here is a site to bookmark:
USGS maps are now available online to view for free at this website.

These things are the greatest. As an exercise, go to their home page and
type in 'monkey run' (without the quotes) in the search field and see what
comes up. Then pull up the map and play with the scale buttons at the top
of the image. At the 1:25000 scale, these maps are so detailed that you can
see every little house that was visible through aerial images at the time
the maps were created.

It works for all kinds of features like creeks, hollows and cemeteries, as
well as communities.

When doing your search be sure to spell everything out, no abbreviations
(use 'saint' not 'st'., and 'mountain' not 'mtn'), and don't include states
or counties, just the feature. They'll come back with a list to pick from.
