John,

Sorry to register in late on this conversation, but I found the publication
dates for those Dallas County diaries mentioned by Miz Parham:

ARKANSAS HISTORICAL QUARTERLY
published by the Arkansas Historical Association
Fayetteville, Arkansas

1983, Number 1
"Life in confederate Arkansas: the diary of Virginia Davis Gray, 1863-1866,
Part I"

1983, Number 2
"Life in Confederate Arkansas: the diary of Virginia Davis Gray, 1863-1866,
Part II"

1976, Number 2
"Private journal of Mary Ann Owen Sims, Part I"

1976, Number 3
"Private journal of Mary Ann Owen Sims, Part II"

1969, Number 4
"John Brown of Arkansas"
(I don't know if this is his diary or not)

Maybe you could find these back issues in one of the local libraries if they
are no longer available from the AHA. Here are two other articles on Tulip,
Arkansas:

1958, Number 1
"Tulip in Her Glory"

1959, Number 3
"Ante-Bellum Schools at Tulip Arkansas"

These two are on-line:

Good luck with your research!
