Kay, when you go 'possum huntn' a dog trees a 'possum because it is up in the
tree and the dog is barking to it you know it is there. When a dog bays
something like a shunk or a bear it is on the ground and the dog is circling
it and barking to let you know he has something stopped. A dog has a
different bark when it trees or bays then when it is on the trail.

We lived in a small valley like place and when you went up a short distance
from our house there was a steep and rough river hill covered with trees and
bushes Now, my old dog would tree a 'possum on the river hill and would sit
there and bark untill daylight if no one came to him. I would lay there and
listen as long as I could stand it then get the 22 rifle and a flashlight
and go shoot the 'possum out of the tree. My dog would be satisfied and I
could get some sleep.
