I have been fascinated by every single post on this topic. The first thing I did, of course, was look up Caudill on a couple of lists. The name is mentioned, but not significantly, and it seems we mostly stayed put in Letcher County instead of moving around a lot.

These posts made me mindful of a couple of things:

1. My cousin did all the legwork on our ancestry only on my maternal side, and I have no clue how to start researching my paternal side. Should be a lot of arrests and prison records show up if nothing else. (ha)

2. A few years back when my oldest daughter was undecided about what she was going to do with her life, I suggested she and I move back to the mountains. She's a real lover of the mountains, wildlife, etc. She said she could never do that because her daughter, who is black, would be very mistreated. It saddens me to say that she's right. As far as we've come on matters of racial prejudice, I don't think the news has hit Letcher County yet.
