In the 17 and 1800's if children were "Bound Out" or taken in to be taught a trade...The courts would sometimes make a contract for the family to agree to certain terms...such as teaching the child reading, writing and basic math...you would also see the phrase "Rule of Threes" would be taught to the youngster as well as the a fore mentioned...my question is what is the "Rule of Threes"...I would have presumed it meant the three R's...reading, writing and arithmatic...but it was in addition to these...does anyone have any ideas
