Thanks very much for the response. This is one of those instances where clearing up something puzzling leads to an interesting, unexpected result.
Your perception this would require effort illustrates an important point in software design - that the user interface can influence how we work and think. In the long run, understanding this problem may lead to the development of tools which _don't_ interfere in our work. At least, I can hope so. :-)
