_If_ the author of one of the articles I read was correct, there are some instances of numbers issued after 1988 which _can_ be correctly predicted (I infer in smaller states). Even if that article is incorrect, it is clear that, using automated processes available online for instant credit approvals, it is possible for a 'bot to perform a trial and error check and verify that final sequence in a fairly short amount of time. In other words, the trial and error process can be automated to fill in the blanks, once you know the first five digits.
