Alexandria Historical Society Award:


Alexandria Historical Society will be honoring eight honorees for the
2009 Alexandria History Award for their contributions in the City of
Alexandria. One of the honorees is Char McCargo Bah, a professional
genealogist/historian/author specializing in African-American family
research, will be recognized for her research into descendants of people
buried at the Freedmen's Cemetery. She discovered dozens of descendants
still living in the Alexandria area.

Following the award presentation, guest speaker Dr. Ben Vinson III,
professor of Latin American History at Johns Hopkins University and
Director of their Center for Africana Studies will present.

A reception will follow the awards ceremony and lecture. The event will
take place on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:30pm., at the Lyceum, 201 South
Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia. It is free and open to all.
