In addition to the book "U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments,
1798-1914" online on Ancestry .... GenealogyBank has the complete set of the
annual volumes of the "US Army Register"; "Navy Register" and other service
branches .... these annual volumes give substantial details on military
personnel .... name, birth date/place; ranks; dates of appointment; stations
etc. - giving the full details each year.
