Michael, I use FamilyTreeMaker. When I want to do something like you'd like
to do, I visualize the people with whom I want to work in an outline
descendant report or in a family tree, and then I export them to a separate
FTM file. (They don't really leave your main file - they just get copied to
a separate family file.) I do that with each group that I want to work
with - export them to a separate family file. You could end up with, say,
six new, separate family files. Then I merge whatever files I need in order
for them to appear on a tree together. You can generate whatever charts,
trees, or reports that you would like with the new family files.
