Dear Sandy,

Scott L. Lougee appears in the Massachusetts statewide indexes as having a
recorded death in Haverhill, Mass., in 1924. This is volume 29, page 377
for 1924 in the records at the Mass. Dept. of Health - not the Massachusetts
Archives. What this should mean is that Haverhill reported the death to the
state, and therefore the state has a record and so does Haverhill.

This should tell you exactly the street address where he died.

Regards,
Melinde

I have a bit of a personal roadblock on WWI that I hope someone may be able
to help with.

My grandfather Scott Locke Lougee b. 1894 Concord, NH d. Jan 1924 unknown
location, and buried Haverhill, Essex, MA Jan 1924 in the WWI Veterans
Memorial plot. {Allegedly the first WWI vet there}

My grandmother who married Scott abt. 1921 and resided with him in
Haverhill, said Scott died from TB contracted while in the service.

I have been unable to find a death record in Haverhill, Ma and a request to
Mass Archives did not turn up anything. I have a copy of his Obit and it
mentioned a ceremony by the local American Legion, unfortunately the Post is
no longer active. It may be possible that my Grandmother had some sort of
widow's pension but I have no proof of that at this time.

A check of the the WWI registration cards uncovered entries for all of his
brothers, all in Haverhill,MA but he was not included. I suspect he may have
enlisted prior to the registration effort. His military records most likely
were destroyed in the fire so I don't know where else to look. Does anyone
out there have suggestions if I'm overlooking a good potential source?
