Does he want a list only of those who served in the U.S.
armed services? Some U.S. citizens served in other nations'
forces. Also, there were auxiliary organizations -- this was
possibly our last war in which U.S. citizens set up or
served in non-governmental units, such as hospitals and
ambulance units.
I really don't have any concrete suggestions for sources.
I've come across some of the above incidentally, like the
info that one of Teddy Roosevelt's female relatives operated
a hospital of some sort in Europe during WWI (or part of
WWI). And Teddy Roosevelt had lobbied unsuccessfully with
the Wilson Administration to get permission to lead and
raise a volunteer unit, like his Rough Riders of
Spanish-American War fame, for service in Europe in WWI.
