In a message dated 2/9/2006 12:11:12 PM Central Standard Time,
I am writing an article about fire insurance maps for a genealogical
publication. I have been told that some libraries in Ohio and the New
Historic and Genealogical Society allow their patrons (library card
access the special Sanborn Fire Insurance Map Collection database
through ProQuest from home for free.
Can any of you please tell me what other libraries allow off-site access to
their patrons from home?
In Texas, HeritageQuest and the Sanborn maps for Texas are accessed through
the TexShare database. Subscribing libraries, which are in the majority, have
access by paid subscription. Remote access is available from home with a log
in code and password given to you by the library you have a card to. I pinned
ProQuest down about two years ago about who had the entire collection. I
have included the list below.
Las Vegas Public Library
Sno-Isle Regional Library
University of Miami
University of Michigan
North Carolina State University
Rondina P. Muncy
