Carolyn,

It's not really an issue of the cataloging, as it is of how to search the
database. The easiest way to search subject headings in World Cat
is to find an appropriate resource by searching with keywords and then to
click on the subject heading link for that resource.
Unfortunately, the subject heading "Los Angeles (Calif.) Directories" is not
probably as precise as you want. It will get you entries like
"Los Angeles theatre book: a comprehensive handbook for playgoers" as well
as city directories.

I always suggest using "advanced search" rather than "basic search", so that
you can control your search
better. Try searching with title phrase for the words "los angeles city
directory". It seems to work well.
