I would appreciate any advice on tracking down Los Angeles phone or
city directories from the early 1960's (specifically for West Los
Angeles). I know they have copies of these on microfiche in the
central Los Angeles library, but am having trouble finding someone who
can do on-site research there for me in a timely manner (volunteers
welcome!).
For some reason I have a hard time when entering search terms for
directories in library catalog databases and OCLC. Any advice would be
welcome, as I have not figured out the best configuration for finding
what I seek. I've tried all sorts of variations and word order, and
each seems to come up with different items. There doesn't seem to be
one subject search that consistently works (e.g. City Directories Los
Angeles). I did find a couple of directories at Allen Co. Library and
had someone look at those for me.
Also, are there online sources for data from 1960's phone books?
(besides what comes up in ancestry as "U.S. Public Records;" pretty
useless as the year and source are not described) I know some of the
white pages sites have more recent years... I thought there might be a
subscription database that some of you have found to be good.
Thanks.
Carolyn
