As a side-note, the last open wireless network that I used in California
"The Wayport Network" pummeled my computer with over 150 hacker attacks in a
24 hour period (this activity was logged by the software firewall). Since
Wayport is a major provider of wireless at airports and hotels, I imagine
that some regularly troll its airwaves for unprotected computers.

Natalie,
Always a timely reminder. Sometime last year my husband opened our network
firewall and counted how many "attacks" occurred. It was a couple of dozen
in just a few minutes. What also amazed us was the first one occurred about
10 seconds after it was open. (If I am recalling the numbers correctly.)
Definitely put that firewall back up pronto!
