Dan Fantore asked about using italics in quoting a foreign language:

Dan,

Placing foreign words in italics used to be the standard, but has fallen by
the wayside more recently. Today, italics are used more for emphasis or
perhaps to separate personal "Comments" from the text of a client report,
but I have to agree that an entire page of italics would be not only hard
on the eyes but difficult to read. Typefaces and levels of headings must
be used carefully and discretely to lead the reader through ones glorious
prose. Anything that interrupts the eye or causes the reader to stop and
question what they just read should be avoided.
