Subject: [APG] Lincoln's Bodyguard?
Date: Wed, 18 Jun 2003 16:39:48 -0700 (PDT)
Hi;
In locating a death notice for a client, I
obtained an obituary for a man who fought during
the Civil War, apparently from Ohio, and who died
in my own home town of Franklin, Mass. in 1917.
His obit. states that he had been a member of
President Lincoln's bodyguard during the Civil
War.
I have never run into this particular
subject before, and was hoping someone on the
list would know what record group the names of
men assigned to Lincoln's bodyguard would fall
under. Or any other likely places to look for
information and details on this. (I had always
heard / assumed that the Pinkerton Agency
provided security during the Civil War for the
President, etc. but have had too many 'facts' I
have heard / assumed to be true turn out to be
false, or partial truths, to want to rely on that
for a client.)
Thanks,
Ray
