Ed, Thanks for taking the time to reply.
The hand-me-down story was my ancestor received land for his service in the
Revolution.
I still have to prove the story or find the right person. The time line fits
but that is about all. The name could be Isaac, James, or John. John was
the only one I could find in the Greenbrier/Monroe County, VA.
So this John Carr did not receive a land grant for serving in the
Revolution? But in likelyhood he purchased the land?
