Helen,
Sulzbach is the German name for Soultzbach-les-Bains, Département du
Haut-Rhin (southern Alsace), in the arrondissement of Colmar and canton
of Munster, about 5 km east of Munster and about 13 km west-southwest
of the center of Colmar. Earlier the name of this town appeared also as
Soultzbach and Sultzbach.
There are other places in southern Alsace with the old name Sulzbach:
Soppe-le-Bas and Soppe-le-Haut, both in the arrondissement of Thann
and canton of Masevaux (called respectively in German, Niedersulzbach
and Obersulzbach)
Sulz/Sultz was the German name for Soultz.
Places in Alsace with this name:
- Soultz-Haut-Rhin (located about 15 km northwest of the center of Mulhouse
and
about 15 km south of Soultzbach-lès-Bains) was called Sulz.
- Soultz-les-Bains (Bas-Rhin), about 3 km north of Molsheim, was called Sulz
and Sulzbad
- Soultz-sous-Forêt, about 11 km SSW of Wissembourg, was also called
''Sulz u. Wald''.
Good luck with your search.
Ewald
