Beverley,
There is a Bernard J. Flory in the US 1920 census whose parents listed
as being born in Alsace Lorraine Germany (sic). This Bernard's age is
given as 37, so born about 1883, in Pennsylvania. Most of 1890 censuses
were destroyed in a fire, and that would have been the best key to see
if he is one you are seeking.
I checked the 1900 census but didn't find him. There are many other
Benjamin Florys listed in Pennsylvania, various birth years in the 19th
century, mostly in Penn. There are many Benjamin Florys listed on
Ancestry.com born in Pennsylvania. But nothing came up for any readily
for later in Illinois, but the list was long.
There are several other Florys in Illinois in earlier censuses than
this Bernard's birth, some born in France (so probably A/L) as early as
1805 and also born in Illinois.
I also checked Flory on geneanet.org and there were over 100 requests
for more info in A/L. I could't use the first name search as that is
only for people who had paid a fee.
I think if you have anymore information - dates, name of father, the
family could be found, but without it would really take a lot of time
sifting.
Perhaps someone has tried and had better luck?
