It seems that everyone is on the Prussia deal,. but the real question is did
some of the people
come from Tyrol to the Pfalz Saarland . Yes- there were glassmakers,
papermakers, fabric
makers and weavers, iron & steel makers, lace makers brought in from the
late 1500's into the
1600's. When the land was stripped of trees and fuel was of short supply,
the businesses shut down.
Many people stayed and others moved to where they could support their
families, and work
at their trades. Two of my ancestors came- one from Austria and one from
Tyrol- it made me
curious so I did some research and, yes, they were as was recorded.

I am finding origins of more than one of my ancestors in Alsace as "the
Tyrol." Some others came from Saarland and Prussia. Then they all
intermarried with the French.

Were immigrants from the Tyrol a significant part of the Alsace population?
The families came in the late or mid-sixteen hundreds. Mine from this area
are: Veit (later Feit or Feith), Brucker, and Michel, and I am looking at
Horig--only because I see that "ig" ending on surnames from my Austrian
ancestors.

Thanks.

Dianne
