I hope you don't mind if I put an inquiry on your list.
I am seeking information about James Almand. He had a brother Thomas who was a big Rev Vet - at least his family thought he was a big Rev Vet. All kinds of articles and books have been written about Thomas, but nothing along those lines about James. I would like to know if James was also a Rev Vet.
It seems the Almands were from Spotsylvania County, VA , moved to Rockingham County, N.C., then into Elbert County, GA. James moved his family to Newton County, GA, now Rockdale, ca 1825. Thomas followed him shortly after. James' line continues with Matthew, born 7 Dec 1825, died 17 Nov 1887. He married Louisa W. Clementine Wood 19 Sep 1847. Their daughter Georgia Elzia (Elzie) Almand married Jacob Thornton Hawk. They were my great-grandparents.
An aside I think is interesting: from "Georgia Land Marks, Memorials, and Legends," by Knight, Vol 2, p.350 :
"To Memory of James D. Allman, who died on 16 July 1845, from accidental charge of a cannon at the funeral obsequies of General Jackson. Honest, mirthful, and beloved, he acquired the title of Crockett. It lives with his memory."
If any of these Almand names sound like any of your Allmand names, please write.
Gloria Wells
