I agree with Gail but voiced my opinion the other night. That there should be
a limit for the "governing body" BUT the voice of the members should be heard
and considered. And if something is turned down it should be made known why
the "coordinators" decided to not approve it. Just as you told me Tracey,
many people do not realize they can set in on AGS board meetings. Common
sense tells me they should be able to but have never seen AGS voice or invite
the "public". Maybe those who want to "help...help...help" can be given the
title of Honorary Members or something. But do you offend someone who feels
they have contributed in other ways and not given a "title"? Titles can get
you into trouble sometimes. Morgan Co AL gives an award (Elbert Minter Award)
each yr to a person voted as having voluntarily contributed to help Morgan
Co Researchers. Maybe do something like that for AR researchers and let the
members make nominations and then let them vote once the names are submitted.
As for the Resource Guide - you know me I am 100% behind you - maybe by a
mile<GR> But I would sure hate for the public to think that many things have
been done "for revenge". And I personally would like to see the signed
agreement between you and AGS before voting to post this on the site, if
there is one. I am not sure when this publication is to be made available but
what abt giving it 2-3 months at least of being on the market before posting
it to the site. I don't know maybe they should be made aware that it is going
to be posted. I guess I am still unclear of what exactly the agreement
between you and them consists.
I have never seen the bylaws that AGS rejected - was it in part of "some
reading from FGS"? Maybe you can bring them to Eureka for me to read.....
I have no idea how many forwards I sent you today on membership with names
and addresses but I am still waiting on some to forward that info to me to
send it on. I did have to unsub from HudsonK and resubbed to
. With all my other mailing lists and I get abt 50
submitted info for the websites so I was totally overwhelmed with email when
I got home from AR tonight. After 3 trips since last Fri I feel like I am a
I KNOW what to do with the passwords - Gail you and I could have fun with
Taking my laptop so will try to keep in touch with all that is going on while
in Phoenix. I did order a couple of Goodspeed's today that have gone out of
print for AR so maybe that will help on the lookup list too. I am sending 150
forms with Susan to Salina, KS. And I have 200 I am taking to Phoenix. Will
stop at OK Historical Society and place membership flyers there too. I have
put my name in the lower right hand corner of the application. I would like
some feed back if there is a response of me taking them on the road with me.
Doesn't have to be exact number but an idea.
Gail while I have you here - I was contacted to give an other lecture at
Ponca City next spring. I am going to suggest one topic be a beginning
genealogy lecture with your county book. If the rest of the counties
represented here have not seen Craighead Co.'s "Walking Through Your Past" A
Guide To Find Your Roots. I highly recommend it for beginning genealogists.
They have put out an excellent publication!
