Subject: [ABERDEEN] trying find birth record

I'm trying to find/track down the birth record for William (W?) Connor
supposedly born Mar 4, 1877 St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Perth
areas. He was born 9 mos before his parents wedding in Dec of 1877, but I
cannot find a birth certificate/record. I can for all siblings, but not
him. The question we have is whether or not he is a true blood Connor. My
husband comes from his line and we are now curious as to the blood line of
the family. He was born to Mary Cruickshank out of wedlock and we believe
another man may be the father. (maybe not) But there was a "story" in the
family that he changed his name from Cruickshank to Connor and this family
denies any "Irish" in them. :)

If anyone can point me in a good direction on how to locate his birth
records, that would be great. And if a bonus...the birth record of his
mother. Mary was also born 1851 out of wedlock to Ann Mitchell and the
father was a Cruickshank (based on marriage & death cert-William/John) but
Ann, the mom, never married. (Census confirmation). Thanks for any advice
on this.

Or if you can tell me how they recorded, or not, illegitimate births back
then.
