The SUEC 246/2 on the bracelet is most likely the wartime National Identity
Number. If this is so the SUEC represents the district or area, the 246 is
the schedule line number used by the enumerator and the 2 after the slash
indicates that this person was second in the household. In most instances
/1 is the father or head of household, /2 is the mother and /3, /4 , etc
are the children. Of course all households were not like that.
In my case my number was SUHT 81/7 as I was the seventh in the household at
time of registration, coming after my grandparents, father and mother and
two older sisters. The SUHT indicated that part of Aberdeen where we lived
at the time of registration in 1939 which was Orchard Street.. I have never
been able to find out the codes for the different parts of the country but
the SU on the bracelet suggests to me that Mary Mearns was possibly
registered in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire and the /2 indicates that she was
second in the household.
Hope this is of assistance
regards
George.
