Hi Goldie

Thanks for your helpful advice. I am sorry that I have not responded to you
since then but I have been away on holiday

Since my posting, a fellow lister has found a Jane/Jean Forbes in the 1851
census. She is living with her son James (born Dyce abt 1823) in Skene which
appears to suggest that her husband James Forbes died sometime between 1841
and 1851. The 1851 Census indicates that Jean/Jane is 68 years old and was
born in Newhills, Aberdeenshire. I have since found a Jean Smith in the IGI
who was born in 1783 in Newhills to a George Smith but unfortunately there
is no mention of a mother's name. A visit to the SP to obtain copies of the
relevant material should confirm things. However I have still not found any
record of James and Jean/Janes's marriage or deaths

By the way I am already a member of the ANESFHS

Kind regards

Colin

Get onto Scotlands People and do the 1841,1851,1861 etc census...one or the
other may be missing but look for either or both.........then...go to
ANESFHS and join.......then get the book on Dyce kirkyard cemy........From
SP get copies of the baptisms of the children....see who was witness to
these christenings.......OR, better yet, if you can, get the film from the
LDS on the parish of Dyce covering these years.........find out who is
related or who MAY tie into this family.......siblings of James or Jane.
The answer is there, you just have to do some awesome digging.
1st I would find the marriage record and see if it says James Forbes from
the parish of.........and Jane Smith from the parish of........... this
should be your first clue IF it gives them. Dig hard...........Goldie
