Hi Liz, yes that is the same family I am researching, Adam's father was
William, his grandfather was John GODSMAN, married to Agnes CASSIE, I am
related to another of John and Agnes's children. I am in touch with two
other people who are related directly to the William GODSMAN, Elizabeth
MACKIE line, any info on other GODSMAN connections is of interest to me,
I'm
sure my other two contacts would be interested in anyone researching their
line, would you like me to email you off list? many regards Alan WHYTE

Hi Alan
The lady I am doing the research for is my granddaughter's 1st cousin 3x
removed. She is 80 years of age and all she ever knew about her mother was
that she was adopted. She knew the name she grew up with, her actual date
of birth, that she was adopted and that the couple who adopted her in 1895
died before she was 7.
I can now confirm that we are looking at William GODSMAN and Elizabeth
MACKIE.
Son - Adam GODSMAN who married Margaret RAE on 02 Jan 1841.
They had a daughter (amongst others) called Elizabeth GODSMAN...This is
where the very interesting story starts.
I have them on the censuses from 1841 - 1911.
I have just obtained a Birth Certificate for Lucy FINETRY - This was a false
name as was her mother's - Annie FINETRY. She gave birth in the workhouse
and obviously didn't want anyone to know who she was. She didn't grow
up as
Lucy FINETRY and it has been a very complex piece of research.
