Hi Kirsteen,

I have been reading your dilemma and may I make a suggestion.
Some time's when anyone is looking for information sometimes a second pair of
eye's may help.
I have been through  information myselt that I thought I would never get through and tried to make sure that I did in fact have the correct information.

So, what I suggest maybe listing what you have and maybe one of us could piece together
what you may have overlooked.

I have been there and I know how frustrating it is.

That is what these site's are for.

Smile and the Aberdeen Genie will help!!

Hi Louise, Gavin,

As far as I know Amelia and Isabella have never been interchangeable (Ray
might be the best person to ask about this though). There are several
possibilities here, including that Joseph's sister wasn't actually his
sister, but was brought up by his mother for some reason, hence her name
on her death notice. How do you get the information that 2 of your
Joseph's were married to the same woman?

I have actually confirmed that the sister is in fact Joseph's sibling, from

her marriage certificate in 1859, and also from the opr Births from the
original films, so i know that to be true facts, I did begin to wonder if
perhaps she
may have been a step sister, but no she is a full blood sister, as with all
Joseph's other siblings, i have traced all them and everything seems to fit
in
just nicely, it is Joseph that is a pain in the butt

The reason i came to the conclusion that two Joseph's married to the same
woman (which i know is a mistake as i have the marriage of one of them and know

both the wife and parents are listed incorrectly on the death certificate,)
just threw me into turmoil as it thought hang on this is wrong as i already
have
the death certificate for this person who married Ann, then his second one
turned up and it though oh heck what is going on here perhaps i have gone
wrong,
so right now have deleted them out of my tree and working on paper notes till
i get the mess sorted out

Gavin Says
It is possible, but there are two other scenarios which I suggest are
more likely:

(1) the Registrar may have been correctly informed, and may have
written the age down correctly, but the data has now been misread from
the certificate. Have you seen the original? Could it actually read
86, rather than 56?
(2) despite the coincidence of parents' names, the man who married in
1825 and the man who died in 1880 are two different people.

Yes Gavin I had thought of that and thought too these were two different
people, but the sibling who was the informant on his death fitted his sister
who
had married a Gordon, and the address was right for her too working from the
census,
I looked again at the death certificate that i downloaded from Scotland's
people, and it does say age 56, but to my reckoning he should have been at
least
76 and born about 1804 according to the 1841 census, I believe the daughter
did not have much of a clue as to how old her dad was, but i do not want to
presume anything and screw up again
I had also looked at the connection between the Joseph's who were
supposedly
married to the same woman or at least to women with the same names, and i know
that one was not married to the person listed on his death certificate, so I
came to the conclusion that there was a relationship there, and the informant
actually has the aunt listed which was Ann/Amelia/Isabella? I have now
obtained the Ann's death certificate and she died age 90 years at the same
address,
so confirms (I hope) her name was actually Ann, so i will have to conclude that

the certificate should read 76 for Joseph which would tie in with the census
data

Hope i am making sense here, as this has me to confused,

and thanks Andy, and Goldie really was not sure about the interchangeable
names, but still makes me wonder why she would be called three different names
on
marriage and death certificates, I wonder if they were pet names for her

Looks like i will have to go back to the drawing board on this line, as the
parents i have listed for Joseph do not seem to exist, nor any children to be
found for them, ah the fun of Genealogy HUH, guess it would be too boring if
all the info just jumped out and told all,

thanks again to everyone who replied, I will let you all know how i fare on
trying to solve this little dilemma,

Kirsteen
