The only reference to "Buss" in my Aberdeenshire folk is from Alexander
BODIE (1770-1838), my 4th great grandfather, who has a headstone that reads
"In memory of ALEXANDER BODIE farmer of Buss d. 26 Oct 1838 aged 68". I have
him as christened in Longside, Aberdeen, then married 1807 in Auchterless to
Janet MACKIE of Fyvie, and died in Auchterless with several of 6 children
also christened in Auchterless. Sounds like he didn't get around too much.
If anyone can connect with this family or has more detailed knowledge of
this place I'd be pleased to hear from you.

There are no places in the Gazetteer called "Bus" or "Buss"
but there is "Bush" in Aberdeenshire. It's at OSGR NJ713415
in Auchterless which is a bit far from any of the "Clova" places.

"The Place-Names of Aberdeenshire" (Third Spalding Club, 1952) lists :
"Bush: Crathie, Auchterless. Pronounced Buss, and so the old spellings."

The Aberdeenshire parish of Crathie and Braemar (which lies west of the
parish of Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn) is just over the hill from
the Angus parish of Clova. But just to confuse matters, the 1st Edition
of the 1" OS map (1870) also shows a "Bush" at the head of Glen Clova,
across the water from Braedownie.
