If you are interested in following the life of John BIRSS, I
suggest you get a copy of the original images from Scotland's
People. It is quite possible the age on either [or both] of
these census transcriptions. 33 can look like 55 and, more
of a stretch, 43 could look like 67.

When the senior enumerator was checking the original
Census returns, they marked the entries with broad soft
pencils and usually scored over the age column. This
often leads to mis-transcribed ages, curse them!
