Mediamax is on online file storage site wher you can store up to 25GB of
data for free, with a download limit of 10GB per month and 10MB maximum
file size. (If you pay then the file restrictions are less.)
It is then possible to put certain files into a "hosted" directory which is
open to the public, which gets round the problem of sending huge e-mail
attachments. If you open an account they invite you to download some
software which makes file transfer quicker. I assume its secure! Note: do
file transfers from the website rather from your computer if you do upload
this software. Visitors to your site do not have to upload special software.

Memory-map is not cheap and is marketed for outdoor activities - links to
GPS, 3D terrain views etc. Cosists of 10 CDs containing the 1:50000 OS maps
of northern (or southern) Britain and the 1:250000 map of all Britain. Good
search facility and allows you to draw "walking" tracks which I have used to
draw the parish boundaries which no longer appear on modern maps, but were
on the old 1" to 1m maps available on
http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_popular_lst.html

Hope this helps, Stuart
