Well, it probably happened more often than you'd imagine. IIRC there was
a bit of research done on folk living in the Glasgow tenaments,
combining looking at documented and genetic parentage, and they found
that the percentage of unidentified (undocumented) illegitimate children
was really quite high (I can't remember the percentage offhand, but will
try to find it).
