Hi Jody

As a follow up from my previous email in which I answered your generous
offer to look at Kirk Session Records for my gg grandfather William
Chalmers, I received an email today from the NAS to the effect that they had
found information in two of the Kirk Session Minutes relating to his mother,
Margaret Chalmers.

They gave the reference numbers to the two entries as CH2/1313/1 p183 dated
May 18th 1817 and also CH2/1313/1 p187 dated October 19th 1817. They also
gave me some information from these two entries but I do not know whether
they were the complete entries.

"I have found two references from the 1817 Alvah Kirk Session minutes, as
follows, which I have transcribed for you because they are only brief
notices.

CH2/1313/1 p 183
May 18th 1817: Session being called and constituted compeared Marg[are]t
Chalmers accusing Alexander Stewart as the father of her child. She was
cited apud acta [at the time] to appear before the session on this day
fortnight and the Min[iste]r was appointed to endeavour to cause Stewart to
be cited to appear along with her. S.C.P.

CH2/1313/1 p 187

Oct 19th 1817: Session being called and constituted compeared M. Chalmers
and was absolved from the scandal of her fornication on paying a penalty of
1 [shilling].

I don't know whether there would be any further information applicable to
the above records but if you have time would appreciate it still if you
could see if the above is the whole of the record.

Thank you

BTW I am also researching the name LYNCH in Ireland.....my gg grandfather
John Lynch was born 1827 in Kilrush, Co Clare to Patrick Lynch....this is
the only info I have on his family which was shown on his enlistment record
in 1848 in the HEIC's 2nd European Light Infantry where he ended up in
Madras, India before coming to Australia about 1854. Where were your
Stewarts from???

Joan
