Keith,

There has been a fair amount of (sometimes heated) discussion regarding
the general topic of DNA testing on soc.genealogy.britain. Some of the
subscribers clearly have very relevant scientific knowledge concerning
the genealogical value of DNA testing in its current state of
development. I gather that some of the claims made by testing
laboratories should be taken with several grains of salt.

Disregarding your particular application to Abels of Aberdeen, you may
well find answers to your general questions in their archives.
