Lynn,

I don't think I can help with your George THOMSON I have only just started
to research this family, below is what I have so far in the time frame you
are looking at, I shall keep your email on file in case I should come across
more info that might help.

My THOMSON'S are Isobel bc 1812 [George bc 1814 -- he married Helen
Farquharson 1842 in Tarland Aberdeenshire they had six children that I know of, none
named George, George died in 1856 aged 40 I haven't been able to locate his
widow and children in any subsequent census, no deaths in Scotlandspeople
website for any of them, can only assume Helen married again and possibly moved
away from the area maybe even emigrated]

Alexander bc 1817 Charles bc 1819 Margaret bc 1921 James bc 1823 Harry bc
1825 & Robert bc 1829 these were all born in Tarland Aberdeenshire parents
were Charles THOMSON & Margaret FORBES married 1st Feb. 1812 Tarland -Migvie,

Sorry can't be more helpful

Cathy

REPLY--I am a THOMSON. Our ancestor was George THOMSON, born about 1843,
immigrated to Brooklyn, Kings County, NY in 1866. We have not definitely
located him yet in Scotland. We were told through the family that he came
from someplace in Banff on the Moray Firth. In NY in 1867 he married Mary
TILLERAY from Aberdeen (Drum's Lane) just after she immigrated. There is a
group of his descendents here in the U.S., as well as those of many other
THOMSONS who immigrated much earlier to Appalachia region of the U.S. (south
east)

This is probably irrelevant, but his son, also George THOMSON (b. NY 1874),
married a woman named Jessie Scotland GRAHAM (b.1870)from Broughty Ferry,
near Dundee. We were also told that a family named FARQUHARSON were friends
who owned a dress shop in NY and helped the GRAHAM family to get established
there. Jessie Scotland immigrated in 1888 with her widowed mother and
siblings.
