Trying to establish the identity of Robert CRUICKSHANK father of Janet
CRUICKSHANK.
My 3xgt-gdmother (and probable mother of Jannet PATERSON found at Crossbrae
in 1841) Janet CRUICKSHANK was born 23 Jun 1800 at Foggielone (Aberchirder)
Marnoch parish BAN, natural daughter of Isobel WILSON there and father
Robert CRUICKSHANK crofter Recloch [Raecloch in Turriff parish ABN].
I have wondered whether he was the Robert CRUICKSHANK who married Jean
GEORGE 12 Dec 1802 in Turriff (and had family of at least William, Robert,
John, James, Ann, Margaret, Christina, possibly living in one of the
settlements with Laithers in its name, all in Turriff).
I have also wondered whether he had a brother William CRUICKSHANK who is
said to have married Ann WILSON 24 Dec 1795 Marnoch, and lived at Raecloch
from then until at least 1803.
I can trace a family of CRUICKSHANKs back from Laithers to Rayne, ABN,
headed by Robert CRUICKSHANK and Elizabeth DURNO, with the names William and
Robert both occurring in every generation. But I cannot fathom whether/how
'my' Robert fits.
Regards Howard
