Audrey, & Carol,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you both , my daughter has been home
from the USA for a few days, & is now off to visit a couple of her sisters .
Peace for a few days !
I suggest that you both contact me off site,
it may be easier to send you what I have , but, to go on with,
I have not personally found anything for Sophia BROWN , I stopped looking
some years ago.
However, someone wrote to me, & gave me this info' from Family Records, &
the IGI, she said.
Gilbert BROWN in Mill of Toure , he had a son John in Backmill of Balguidy,
& married Jean MURRAY in Turriff.
Their children were said to be ;
John , Isabella, Sophia, James, Martha, Daniel, Jean, John, Catherine,
Helen,
Rachel, Sarah, Margaret.
That Sophia married John THOMPSON.
Martha married Alexander Cruikshank, & this info' was sent to an Australian
family by a desc. of that family, & subsequently to me.
I suppose the 'P' in Thompson could be one of those canges in spelling
Audrey, Your Sophia could also be in the correct age group, so, I really do
not know, Carol, maybe this is a connection in Australia.
When Helen PANTON ( maiden name Thomson ), died , 1857, in Cuminestown, her
Parents were written as John Thomson Builder, & Sophia Brown. It did not
have the usual married name , & maiden name on a separate line, so, I had
assumed that this couple was not married.
However, it has often been shown on some Death Certs., that I have seen that
the Deceased was illegitimate, but that was not mentioned.
I can only say that I hope that Helen is desc., from the couple above, i.e.
with all the Siblings of Sophia mentioned, being the correct family.
