Hi Listers,

I too could never afford Scotlandspeople but have for at least 20yrs used
the Mormon Family History Centres and read their wonderful filmings.I am not
a member but a fanatical family historian!!

Nothing like the real records, reel by reel hour by hour, the things you
learn, not just family details but social history etc etc.For a lot of
countries as well.
How I would have hated just to only get the ancestors name & the one or 2
children specifically related to you.

It is a much under used fabulous facility. I enjoy wandering around with the
census enumerator, seeing where they live, how far away other families were,
what jobs they did. Often census are the only way of finding family members
because not a lot made their way into the registers for a variety of
reasons.

Dont just read up for births, deaths & marriages, census but their's so much
more you may just discover that your family show up in. Suppose it depends
on whether your just a data collector or really interested in your families
past.

If you do live within reach of these facilities "go for it".
I wouldnt do my family history today if I had o go back to the days before
the Family History Centres where I had to pay for a researcher which I
sometimes think was better than what scotlandspeople offers.

Barbara
