Dear listers

This is my first letter to this list. My ggggrandfather was Patrick
Dyce, the youngest son of the Dyce family of Tillygreig. He migrated
to Australia in 1828 and died in 1838 when he was drowned in the Yass
River.

Later his widow had to formally claim the land he had been granted by
the Governor as land grant records were not complete. At the hearing
it was stated that Patrick had been "a wild young man" in his youth.
Would any newspapers exist that might describe how he had this
reputation before he left Scotland? Or could his family have kept his
antics out of the media of the day?
