Thank you for the reminder. I am but an hour from Philadelphia, and
have visited the National Archives on other business not related to my
HURRIE line. William Hurrie/Hurry is mentioned a number of times in the
Congressional Record as he was the keeper of the State House, building
the fires (and not getting paid for a long time for doing so) that kept
the legislators warm, and other tasks as superintendent, custodian, oh,
and yes, Bell Ringer. My 6 ggrandfather's job as ringer of the State
House Bell, now known as the Liberty Bell, was how he came to have done
so when the Declaration of Independence was first read to the people
(not likely to have been 4 of July 1776, but if it was rung then, he
did that, too)
