Inverness could you give me some details as I have McBain in my tree
on my maternal side.>

Yes Katherine, My great grandfather was Graham Gordon McBAIN born c1845 in Ordiquihill the oldest of 9 known children, the others born in Rathven. He married Janet (Jessie) McCONACHIE in Meadows, Fordyce. His father Donald was a Tailor born 1813 in Moy, Inverness. In his lifetime the spelling of his name changed from McBEAN to McBAIN. Donald married Margaret WILSON from Fordyce. Donald's father was also a Donald. Donald McBEAN Snr born c1790 married Catherine McQUEEN both traced to the Moy - Delarossie area of Inverness. This area seems to be the seat of the name McBEAN at that time so it then becomes difficult. Incidentally Donald Jnr seems to be 'Daniel' from 'Caithness' in the 1881 Census - one of life's mysteries. My next job is to find him in the 1871 or previous census. I am indebted to my American 'cousin' for the Inverness source.

Ian
