Dear Anne,
From "The Mark of the Scots," a fascinating book by Duncan A. Bruce (ISBN
0-8065-2060-4)
"The Scots College in Paris was founded in 1326 under the auspices of King
Robert I, the Bruce, and is the oldest institution of higher learning
connected with the name of Scotland, predating the establishment of St.
Andrews by almost a century. The French king, Charles the Fair presented
property to David, Bishop of Moray, to found this center for Scottish
scholars in the French capital. Le College des Eccossais was moved to 65 rue
du Cardinal Lemoine in 1662. Now housing a Dominican order, it still stands
proudly, its facade and ornate scottish chapel protected by the French
government. "
