The 5th TN mounted infantry was union.

I know of a cemetery in North Georgia within the Chattahoochee National Forest with a tombstone for "William B. Long, 5th Tenn mounted infantry".

He was from Tennessee and moved to North Ga. before the WBTS.

I researched the 5th Tenn. Mt. Inf., thinking it was confederate.

It was not. The mountaineers from Cades Cove, TN moved there way before the WBTS.

Most of those mountaineers remained loyal to the Union.

John Simmons
