From - CRACKER CAVALIERS - The 2nd Georgia Cavalry under Wheeler and
Forrest - John Randolph Poole
there is a Martin Smith listed as a private - CAPTURED 10-9-63 AT SUGAR
CREEK, TENN.
there is a J.W. SMITH, private, 5-6-62, 30 years old. Present - 2-63,
11-63, 12-63, clothing was issued to him on
3-27-64. AWOL 12-64
You can contact the Indiana Archives and get a copy of the page that lists
your ancestor as a prisoner and if he died in Camp Morton, you can get a
copy of that page too. I don't remember how much it was - the lady that
helped me was very nice.
My husband's gg grandfather was captured at Sugar Creek and died at Camp
Morton. There is very little info on the 2nd Georgia Calvary. You can find
info on the conditions at Camp Morton. Hope this helps you. Nancy
Jones

2nd Regt Ga Cavalry. I have been to the National Archives and found cards
tracing their captivities in different prison camps (Rock Island and Camp
Morton). Would the Georgia Archives have anything that the National Archives
wouldn't have? I can't find much information on the 2nd Regt Ga Cav on the
web. Can anyone direct me? Thanks.
